A “System Partition Failed” status means the system partition on one or more drives is degraded or has crashed. The knowledge base says the drive may be defective, but it also notes that the error does not always mean the disk is bad.
What to do:
1. Open Storage Manager.
2. Go to Overview and click Repair.
3. Wait for the system to finish repairing the system partition.
4. Go to HDD/SSD and check whether any drives still show System Partition Failed.
5. If a drive still shows that status, it might be defective and need replacement.
If a defective drive must be replaced:
- Deactivate the drive if it is part of a storage pool.
- Replace the defective drive.
- Then repair the storage pool or the system partition depending on the status shown in Overview.
For related drive-health checks, the manual also advises:
- restart the DiskStation or re-insert the drive(s),
- run the HDD/SSD manufacturer’s diagnostic tool,
- and, if you can log into DSM, run the built-in S.M.A.R.T. test.
