Synology Surveillance Station camera licenses

A community-sourced answer, with sources. Ask the AI a follow-up for your exact setup.

By default, each Synology server comes with two or more default device licenses. The exact number depends on the model datasheet. These default licenses cannot be deleted or migrated.

To add more cameras:
1. Purchase Device License Packs separately — they are sold with 1, 4, or 8 licenses.
2. Add the camera in Surveillance Station > Main Menu > IP Camera > Add > Add Camera.
3. Use Quick Setup if you want a simpler setup, or Complete Setup for detailed video/recording/schedule settings.
4. If you need to add many cameras, you can also use Batch Manage or import a camera list/configuration file.

Additional notes from the knowledge base:
- Surveillance Station supports offline license management via Surveillance Station Client and DS cam.
- It also supports license migration between different Synology servers.
- For camera compatibility, check the IP camera Support List first.
- You can only batch add ONVIF cameras with Quick Setup.
