Which should you buy?

Choose the RS2414RP+ if you need more headroom: it has the stronger CPU, higher RAM ceiling, more bays, and is the one worth pairing with expansion. The RS2212+ is the smaller, cheaper option, but it falls behind on performance and scalability.

Neither model has built-in 10GbE or M.2 support. If those matter, you’d need a different Synology model or add-on networking where supported.
