Choose the RS1619xs+ if you want the stronger Xeon CPU, much higher RAM ceiling, and built-in 10GbE; it’s the more capable platform for heavier multitasking and higher network throughput. Choose the RS1221+ if you want a cheaper, lower-power 8-bay unit with similar expansion flexibility, but note it tops out lower on RAM and lacks built-in 10GbE and M.2 compared with the xs+ model.
