Choose the DS713+ if you want the clearly stronger box: it has a faster CPU, a higher RAM ceiling, and support for expansion through the DX513. The DS712+ is the older, weaker option, and neither model has built-in 10GbE or M.2. If your needs are basic file storage and backups, the DS712+ is fine; for more headroom and longevity, pick the DS713+.
