Choose the DS425+ if you want a newer Intel CPU, more RAM headroom, and M.2 NVMe support; it’s the better pick for snappier apps, caching, and future-proofing. Choose the DS508 if you need more drive bays and built-in 10GbE for higher raw storage capacity or faster wired transfers, but it gives up the newer CPU/RAM ceiling and M.2 support.
