Choose the DS725+ if you want the newer, faster platform: it uses a newer CPU, supports up to 32 GB RAM, has 2 bays with expansion support, and includes 10GbE plus M.2 slots. The DS916+ is the older choice with a weaker CPU, a lower RAM ceiling, and lacks the newer 10GbE/M.2 feature set, so it only makes sense if you’re getting it much cheaper.
