Pick the DS416 if you want the more practical NAS: it has 4 bays, a higher RAM ceiling, and supports expansion/upgrade options that the DS415PLAY does not. The DS415PLAY is the weaker choice here for buyer flexibility; neither model gives you 10GbE or M.2, so the deciding factor is mostly CPU/RAM headroom and bay/expansion capacity.
