Pick the DS225+ if you want the newer, faster platform: it has the stronger CPU class, more RAM headroom, supports 10GbE and M.2, and is the better choice for a small office that may grow. Pick the DS408 only if you specifically need more drive bays/expansion, since it gives you more storage flexibility but is the weaker, older option on CPU, RAM ceiling, and modern connectivity.
