Choose the DS423+ if you want more storage headroom and future expansion: it has 4 bays vs 2, and that matters more than the DS224+’s smaller size. The DS224+ uses a Celeron J4125, while the DS423+ uses a Celeron J4125 as well? Actually the decisive spec differences are the DS423+’s extra bays and higher RAM ceiling; neither model has built-in 10GbE, and M.2 is not a deciding factor here. If you only need two drives and lower cost, the DS224+ is enough; if you may want RAID flexibility or to grow past 2 drives, get the DS423+.
